The project involves building a local centre for the biopile treatment of contaminated soils, to treat such soils directly on site. Its capacity will be around 1,000 m3 of contaminated soil. Centre facilities will include a contaminated soil storage area and a treated soil area, each measuring 225 m2.

A container will be set up for contaminated snow in the event of an accidental spill. The project will allow for the storage and management of hydrocarbon-contaminated snow, as well as the treatment of contaminated water from snow melt.

Project activities include:
– Removing bulky items from the site
– Building an access road
– Site levelling, if required
– Importing backfill, if required
– Installing geomembranes and drainage
– Installing aeration, water and air treatment systems
– Connecting the system to the power grid
It will be possible to hook the facilities up to the power grid without having to extend existing infrastructures. At end of use, the infrastructure will be dismantled and disposed of off-site. Process water retention basins will be removed and the ground levelled. Soil characterization will be carried out before and after the project to assess this latter’s impact.
