The proposed access road is located on Category I Inuit land northeast of Kuujjuarapik. In some areas, the road is very close to, but not touching, Cree land.

Affected area

The total wetland encroachment will be approximately 1,394 m2 over 572 linear metres. The works will take place in an uninhabited area on the outskirts of the Northern Village of Kuujjuarapik. The vegetation is mainly subarctic heath, with 3070% shrubs and coniferous forest that has a density of 10–25%.

Description

The works consist mainly of widening the roadway from 7 to 9 metres. In addition, 13 culverts will need to be replaced with aluminized corrugated metal piping and one culvert will be added. In addition to these tasks, clearing for visibility and guardrail installation will be carried out.
