Affected area
Following an accidental diesel spil on November 9, 2022 at Uquutaq school in Inukjuak, environmental remediation work was carried out during summer 2023 and 2024. However, there is still residual contamination of around 64 m2 under a fenced zone where the tank is situated.

The chosen treatment consists of two series of soil injections using a surfactant and/or biological oxidant via injection wells excavated with core drills and excavators.
Waiting 4 to 6 weeks between injections is recommended to allow the bacteria to act in the soil. Soil characterization will also be conducted to check the level of contamination and continue treatment if needed.
