Decision
The Commission has decided not to subject the project to the environmental and social impact assessment procedure.
Description
The current petroluem depot in Kangirsuk has 3 vertical tanks and 6 horizontal tanks with a total capacity of 4.8 million liters. This project involves the expansion of the current bowl, changing the vertical tank No. 1 and the addition of a 10,000 barrels (1,590,000 L) vertical tank. With this expansion, the deposit will have an area of 4182 m2. Furthermore, with the new equipment, electrical panels and existing controls will have be modified. Finally, the existing tanks 1, 2 and 3 will be emptied and cleaned up in order to proceed with minor modifications. Scrap metal from dismantlement will be sent to Montreal by boat to be recycled. Residues containing petroleum products will be placed in bins or barrels and sent to Montreal to be disposed of in authorized locations. Only construction waste such as packaging and concrete formwork will be disposed at the Kangirsuk waste disposal site.
